Tessuto jeans

The jeans fabric originated in the Republic of Genoa. It was reinvented in 1871 as we know it today by the tailor Jacob Davis and patented with Levi Strauss on 20 May 1873. Since the mid-16th century, a very durable cotton moleskin was produced in Genoa, mostly dyed with indigo that arrived from the Orient. It was embarked on ships that sailed to England. Here, the city of origin was written on the packaging: the English ‘Jeanes’, ‘Jeane’, ‘Jean’ thus became ‘Jeans’.
